Play is a full-length animated film set in the Winx Club universe and released in Australia by Marvelous Animation on 29 March 2013, to celebrate 20 years of the Winx Club. It was produced by Marvelous Entertainment Co., Ltd., and was directed by Tomomi Mochizuki, with character design by Kousuke Fujishima. A feature-length spin-off of the Winx Club anime series, it follows the eponymous girls when they move to New York City.

Set in the Winx Club universe, the film is set on the day before the start of the 2009/2010 season of their 4th movie "Spring of the Warlord". This is a pivotal day for the club since it will mark their 20th anniversary, and they are preparing for a celebration. They will also be making a new Winx Club member, who is introduced to them in this film.

Although the movie is a sequel to the third Winx Club movie, "Ginga Eiyūtan" (English: Countering Force), it is not a direct sequel to the anime series. In the film, they travel to New York City for a press conference before their first world tour. While there, they encounter a mysterious competitor and learn about their past.

Main characters

The film is a sequel to the Winx Club anime series, and follows the Winx Club members when they have their 20th anniversary celebration and make a new member.

Princess Flurry Heart

The protagonist of the film, she is a 21st century version of the Winx Club. She is a year younger than her friends, Chariot and Meloetta, and is the daughter of Emperor Dark. She is the head of the Royal Family and is responsible for the construction of Earth. She is also responsible for bringing Emperors to Earth in order to control it, though she does not seem to care much about it. She had a crush on Triton in the anime series, and later on, Triton's son, Triton Junior. She also has a sadistic side to her. She has a high opinion of her fellow Winx Club members, and is very trusting of them, causing her to fall into traps often.

She is also a descendant of the Blood line of the Ice Tribe, and was born in the same mansion as the other Winx Club members. She was the first Winx to appear in the anime series, before Chariot and Meloetta. When she appeared, she was a young girl, and had a coat of bright red fur, like a ginger. In the movie, she is dressed in a black coat with red streaks running through it, with hair that is a darker red, and her coat is black with a red trim, similar to the coat that her sister Melissa wears in the series.
